  • The Holy city of Dwarka, one of the Char Dhams, is located on the west coast of INDIA in the state of Gujarat. 
  •  Jagat Mandir - The Dwarkadhish temple is popularly known for its chalukya style of architecture and has a history of over 2500 years. 
  • A part of Sapta Puri, the seven most ancient religious cities in the country, it is often regarded as the ancient kingdom of Shri Krishna.
  • Although being a spiritual and religious place, Dwarka offers various attractions, for all age groups, ranging from temples to beaches, islands (Bet Dwarka), adventure activities.
  • The best time to visit is during winters due to good weather and also during this time, the seawater is very clear. (generally December- January- February). 

How to reach Dwarka?

  • Railhead: If you don’t have a direct train to Dwarka, take a train to Rajkot and then you may take a bus or private cab to Dwarka.
  • Airport: The nearest airport is PORBANDAR airport (110 km) which has regular flights to and from Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
  • By Bus:  Dwarka is well connected with the major cities of Gujarat via buses from both private operators as well as state transport. You may find daytime as well as overnight buses to Rajkot (250 km), Jamnagar (150 km), Ahmedabad (450 km), Baroda (515 km), Surat (670 km), Porbandar (120 km) etc.

  • Ancient temples: From Jagat Mandir - One of the Char Dhams of Hindu Religion, to Nageshwara temple - one of the twelve jyotirlingas, there are many temples you can visit that are all within 20-30 km vicinity. 
  • Beaches and Sea Life: Discover the various beaches like Dwarka beach, Shivrajpur beach (12 kms from Dwarka), Mithapur beach (20 kms from Dwarka), Momai Mulvel beach (24 kms from Dwarka) and also sea life-like corals at Mithapur beach, Dolphin viewing at Bet Dwarka, etc. 
  • Island: Beyt Dwarka (Bet stands for Island) is an island famous for religious as well as camping activities. Hop onto a ferry boat and take a 15-minute ride with seagulls flying all around you (during winters only) to reach here.
  • Kathiyawadi food: While discovering Dwarka, we recommend you try out the Kathiyawadi cuisine, which will give your taste buds a certain kick and also don't miss out on Khichadi-Osaman,  which is prepared by the Gogdi brahmins of the city.

Day 1: Reach Dwarka and local tour of Dwarka

After reaching Dwarka, the people of this divine and spiritual land will wish you Jay Dwarkadhish with joined hands showing respect and love for their guests. We would recommend you stay near to the town and not in the resorts which are far away from the town.

After checking in, we recommend you to visit Jagat mandir- Shree Dwarkadhish temple first as the temple gets closed by 12:30 pm and you may get a long queue. This temple is one of the char dham of India, dedicated to lord krishna.

Lunch options around Dwarka temple:

Now, after lunch, you can go and explore the market. Dwarka’s market is famous for Bandhani saree, so you can visit saree shops around the temple.

Pandav Panch Kua:  In the evening, head towards Sudama Setu (at the gomti ghat near the Jagat mandir), which is a very beautiful bridge over the gomti river, (Ticket price for adults: Rs. 20 and for children Rs. 10)  and visit the Panch Pandav Kuva (The Pandavas well).

Near the well, there are many vendors with camels, dirt bikes and all. Children may enjoy riding them. At a walking distance from the well, there’s the Dwarka beach which children will enjoy a lot. It is not recommended to bathe there but you can just sit at the shore and enjoy the sunset.

Gomti Sangam: Spend some time at the Gomti Ghat, at a walking distance from the temple and enjoy the confluence of the Gomti river and Arabian sea. Take a dip in the holy waters, feed the fish some fresh atta (many vendors will be around).

  • After watching the sunset, all the foodies might be feeling hungry. 

Few good dinner options:

  • Gugadi Bhraman 505: at Rabari gate (opposite Roma Kristo Hotel) for Khichdi, Osaman. We highly recommend you to have your dinner here because khichdi is a speciality of Dwarka.
  • Shree Ram Varieties stall: (street food) near SBI bank, Market chowk for various delicacies. Try their Automatic undhiyu as it will take your taste buds to the next level.
  • Purushottam Parotha House at Bhadrakali chowk for Punjabi food.

Day 2: Visit to surrounding areas of Dwarka

We recommend you start your day at 7:00 am and have a heavy breakfast as lunch options will be limited in this route. You can also pack some snacks or so. 

Breakfast options near Teen batti chowk: 

  • Hiralal Gathiyawala at teen batti chowk for puri sabji, gathiya, fafda, vanela etc.
  • Vaman nashta centre opposite Jagat Mandir for idli, samosa, khaman, etc.
  • Gokul Nasta centre at bhadrakali chowk for puri sabji, south indian, etc.
  • Sai nasta centre at Shivraj Singh road, iscon gate for gathiya, khaman, jalebi etc.

Beyt Dwarka (30 kms from Dwarka)Temple timings:  7:00 am to 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

  • Your cab operator will drop you at Okha jetty from which you will have to catch a ferry boat. The cost per person is around Rs. 20. - Enjoy the 15-minute boat journey on the Arabian sea. After reaching Bet Dwarka, head towards the temple which is at a walking distance (around 600-700 metres) from the jetty.
  • Visit The Shree Bet Dwarka Mandir. It is believed to be the residence of Lord Krishna.

Hanuman Dandi (5 kms from Shree Bet Dwarka Mandir): Now after coming out of the temple, head west to catch up a rickshaw which will take you to Hanuman Dandi. The cost will be around Rs. 30-50 per person. It is a 30 minutes ride through the drylands of the island where you will occasionally enjoy the view of the sea.

  • This temple is unique since it is built in the very same spot where Shree Hanuman had met his son Makardhwaj for the first time. - You may also have prasad (lunch) at this place. 

Now head back to the Beyt Dwarka temple and then to the market. You might find many shops selling decorative items for home or office. Spend some time there. Also, don't forget to buy some shells from the vendors around.

  • Now, hop on to the boat and return back to okha jetty. This entire journey would easily take around 5-6 hours.

Gopi talav (20kms from Dwarka): This is the place where the gopis from Vrindavan came to meet Shri Krishna, performed raas and then offered their lives into the soil of the place, due to which we get pure Chandan here. The soil of the gopi talav (Gopi lake) is a bit yellowish and is fine in texture. Buy Chandan from a few stores around. Now, the next stop is Nageshwara, just 2 kms from Gopi talav.

Nageshwar jyotirlinga (16kms from Dwarka): One of the twelve jyotirlingas, Nageshwar jyotirlinga is quite famous for its 85 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva. Visit the temple and then the lake behind it. The lake is full of turtles and lotus. Now,  the next stop is Mulvel/Momai Maa Beach.

Mulvel/ Momai Maa Beach (14kms from Nageshwara): You definitely shouldn’t miss out on this beautiful beach which offers serene views with small hilltops around. A must visit the place. The next stop is Rukshmani temple.

Rukmani temple (30 kms from Mulvel): It is dedicated to Goddess Rukmini (Lord Krishna’s chief queen and the incarnation of Devi Lakshmi in Dwapara yuga). The temple is said to be 2,500 years old but in its present form, it is inferred to belong to the 12th century. The next stop is market chowk to get your empty tummy filled (can be skipped if not hungry).

Street food at Market chowk (600 metres from Jagat Mandir): Enjoy the local delicacies here like steam dhokla, bread katka, dosa, etc. The next stop is Bhadkeshwar Mahadev temple. 

Bhadkeshwar Mahadev temple: (3 kms from Market chowk): The location of this temple will surely blow your mind as it is surrounded by the sea and offers a mesmerising view of the Arabian sea. After offering your prayers at the temple, head towards the sunset point which is at a walking distance.

Sunset point (Walking distance from Bhadkeshwar temple): Enjoy the most photogenic place of Dwarka, when the sun is about to take a dip in the Arabian sea. Now, you may head towards your accommodation and get refreshed and get ready for a scrumptious dinner.

Day 3: Dwarka to Shivrajpur Beach and return

We suggest you start your day early and go for the Mangla aarti that takes place at around 6:30 am.

  • After the Aarti, it’s time for some breakfast.

Breakfast options near Bhadrakali chowk:

  • Gokul restaurant for south Indian, poha, paratha, etc.
  • Jalaram Nasta house for south Indian, khaman, sev khamni, etc.

Also many small stalls offering fresh breakfast options like dhokla, khaman, poha, Jalebi-fafda, etc. are available there nearby.

Shivrajpur Beach: (12 kms from Dwarka): It is the only Blue Flag Beach of Gujarat State. It is equipped with modern facilities and offers quite scenic views. There are also many adventure sports like Scuba Diving, boating, snorkelling. Spend some time walking along the shore on the wet sand.

Suggestions & Recommendations

  • Alternate mode of travelling places around Dwarka in govt. run buses:
  • Dwarka Nagarpalika runs buses that cover all the major attractions like Rukmani temple, Bet Dwarka, Gopi talav, Nageshwara and return to Dwarka. Per day, there are 2 buses that follow this trip, one at 8:00 am and the other at 2:00 pm with Rs. 80/Rs. 100 (depending on the season) per person. Each trip will take 6 hours or so. No meals covered. If you wish to travel in the Nagar Palika bus, then be on time and reach the Nagar Palika office at Bhadrakali chowk. You can get a ticket from the office itself. As of now, no online booking options are available. 
  • If you wish to travel to Shivrajpur beach on the same day of travelling bet Dwarka, we suggest you start your trip early in the morning and reach Shivrajpur beach around 8:00 am. But by doing this, you may miss out on adventure activities. This way you may save some time for the coming day (day 3).
