  • Aurangabad is the tourism Capital of Maharashtra. This very famous historic city got its name from the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb who developed and ruled the city during the Mughal dynasty.
  • Aurangabad is an amazing destination for a small quick escape from your routine. If you are a lover of art, culture, history, and ancient monuments then Aurangabad is a must-visit place for you.
  • The city is also known as the City Of Gates as there are numerous gates at various spots in the city.
  • Aurangabad is known for the Bibi ka Maqbara which is a replica of The Taj Mahal. It was commissioned by King Aurangzeb (son of Shah Jahan) in the fond memory of his loving wife Dilras Banu Begum. Also, called as the Taj Of Deccan or The Mini Taj and it attracts thousands of tourists everyday to the city.
  • This city is also known for the world-famous Ellora Caves(dating around 600-1000 CE), a UNESCO world heritage site.
  • The city is situated at the basins of the Kham river which passes through some of the major areas of the city.

How to Reach Aurangabad?

  • Railhead: Aurangabad Railway Station is well connected to all main cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and southern part. It is about 3 Km from the heart of the city. 
  • Airport: Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport is approx 7.5 Km from the heart of the city. Flights are available from cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, etc.
  • Road: Aurangabad is well connected to all the places in Maharashtra. Two major bus stands are as below:
    • 1. Central Bus Stand, located near Baba Petrol Pump – All Major Interstate and Intrastate buses start from this stand for M.P, Karnataka, Gujarat, etc.
    • 2. Cidco Bus Stand, located on Jalna Road – Mainly interstate buses operate from here like Beed, Solapur, Sillod, Jalgaon, etc.

Day 1 - Arrival Day and Local Aurangabad Tour

Assuming your arrival timing is around 12:00 noon. You may find a good place to stay at a hotel near Kranti Chowk.

Bibi Ka Maqbara Monument – It is a historical place also considered as a symbol of Aurangzeb’s conjugal fidelity. It is around 2 km from Panchakki. Enjoy the evening and watch the beautiful sunset through the Minars of the Maqbara. Lure in the grass and click memorable photographs.(Duration – 2 hours)

Khultabad 4 km from the Ellora cave, one must visit the Tomb of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
You may also visit the famous Shri Bhadra Maruti Temple of Khultabad – Dedicated Lord Hanuman.

Lunch Options:

Head towards Deogiri/Daulatabad Fort – The fort is about 13.2 km from Ellora caves. You will reach the fort in 15-20 mins from Ellora road. This fort is the identity of Aurangabad’s historic legacy. It will take approx. 30-40 mins to climb up the fort and enjoy the beautiful sunset from the top of the fort. Spend quality time of about an hour and a half here. You may have local street food like Pani puri, Bhel at the food stalls nearby.

  • On the first day, if you have spare time, visit the Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. The University area is serene and peaceful. Aurangabad caves are also located inside the university campus.
  • If you are a nature lover and if time permits, visit the Himayat Baugh near Delhi Gate. The garden has a lot of horticulture and a variety of plants. It is also an ancient garden built during the Mughal Rule.
  • You may visit the Siddharth Garden Zoo & Aquarium, if there are children with you. It is located 3 Km away from Kranti Chowk.
  • If you have an extra day, spare it for visiting the Ajanta Caves. They are 100 Km away from the city and would require a complete day for sightseeing.

  • Mhaismal: A very famous hill station located 40 Km from the city, a must visit place in the rainy and during the winter seasons.
