  • Nestled between the tall Coconut and Palmyra trees and along the deep blue Arabian Sea lies the small town of Shrivardhan known for its natural beauty and mesmerizing views.
  • Located along the Konkan Coast in the Raigad District of Maharashtra, Shrivardhan is known for its pristine and serene sandy beaches.
  • The beaches in and around Shrivardhan are less crowded and hence one can get more closer to nature.
  • Shrivardhan also has Historic importance as this is the birthplace of Peshwa Balaji Vishwanatha Bhatt, father of Peshwa Bajirao l, and is the ancestral village of the Peshwa Bhatt Family.
  • Harihareshwar considered the twin town of Shrivardhan is an ancient pilgrimage centre. 

How to reach Shrivardhan?

  • Airport - The nearest airports are located in Mumbai and Pune. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai is 195km away from Shrivardhan whereas the Pune airport is 170 Km away.
  • Railhead - The nearest Railway station is the Mangaon Railway Station on the Konkan Railway Route which is 50 km away. There isn’t enough connectivity from the station to Shrivardhan, hence a train journey isn’t recommended.
  • By Road -
    • From Mumbai: Located at a distance of 190 km. From Mumbai go along the Mumbai-Goa Highway up to Nagothane Junction and then towards Shrivardhan.
    • From Pune:  Located at a distance of 165 km. From Pune take the Paud road, then towards Mulshi, and pass via the scenic Tamhini Ghat that passes through the Sahyadri Range.
  • By Ferry & Road - From Mumbai’s Bhaucha Dhakka you can take your car via the M2M Ro-Pax Ferry which will take you with your vehicle to Mandwa Jetty. Then by road, reach up to Agardanda Jetty. From here take the Ferry to Dighi. Then from Dighi, you can reach Shrivardhan which is 30 km away.

Day 1: Arrival and local sightseeing

Breakfast options while coming from Mumbai:

  • Shree Datta Snacks, Panvel Junction: Maharashtrian Breakfast dishes like Kande Pohe, Misal Pav, Vada pav, Aluwadi, Kothimbir wadi, Sabudana Khichadi, etc.
  • Trimurti, Karnala: (approx. 10 km from Panvel) Try their Misal Pav, Thalipeeth, and Batata Vada.

Breakfast options while coming from Pune:

  • Quick Bite, near Tamhini Ghat: Maharashtrian and South Indian Breakfast items.

Some options to stay in Shrivardhan:

Assuming that you reach the destination by 12 noon or 1 pm, it’s better to have lunch first and then proceed for sightseeing.

Harihareshwar Temple: Visit Kalbhairav Jogeshwari Temple and Harihareshwar Temple in that order and then there is a particular Pradakshina route along the seashore (not to be done during high tide).

  • Harihareshwar is also called Dakshin Kashi or Devghar(literally means “House of God” in Marathi).
  • The current temple was built during Peshwa Rule hence called the “Peshwekaalin” Mandir.

Harihareshwar Shukl Teerth Point: After doing a temple visit, go to the Harihareshwar sea viewing point atop a small hill. This place offers an amazing sea view which is flocked by tourists.

  • Once you climb down a few steps towards the sea, you can see an amazing spectacle of nature. Here, just beside the salty sea, is a cavity in the rocks where there is sweet potable water and you can even drink it.

Water Sports at Harihareshwar Beach: Speed Boats, Banana Ride and other water sports activities are available

  • At this time, it itself book a Dolphin Safari for the next day early morning. (1-hour boat ride costs somewhere around Rs.2000-3000)

Shrivardhan Beach and Fish Market: By 6-6:30 pm come back to Shrivardhan and walk down the local fish market and buy fish as per your choice and you can tell the cook of your homestay/resort to prepare that fish which you bought. It would be cheaper for you. 

  • If you don’t eat Nonveg then head start towards Shrivardhan Beach to see the beautiful sunset.
  • Have dinner at your resort/homestay.

Day 2: Dolphin Safari, Local sightseeing, and Return

Dolphin Safari at Harihareshwar: Since you have booked the safari the day before hence, head towards Harihareshwar beach early morning and reach the beach by 5:30-6:30 am. The safari will take 1-1:30 hrs and also ask the boatman to take the boat across the Harihareshwar viewpoint that you saw yesterday. The Rock formation of the hill can be seen properly from the seaside through the boat.

  • After all, this, get back to Shrivardhan or have breakfast in Harihareshwar itself. Try to dig into local breakfast specialities like Ghawane with Chutney, Dadape Pohe, Kol Pohe, Batata Vada, and Misal.

Aravi Beach: After a heart-filling breakfast head towards the Aravi Beach located 10 km to the north of Shrivardhan. The Shrivardhan beach is completely sandy whereas the Aravi beach is semi sandy- semi rocky beach. Also, during low tide, various small sea creatures like small crabs, starfish, corals, squids can be seen in the rock cavities. After spending around 1 hr here, return to Shrivardhan.

Shrimant Balaji Vishwanath Peshwe Smarak: Shrimant Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath was born here. The ancestral House (Wada) of the Peshwa family is preserved here and there is also a statue of Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath. 

  • Then checkout from the resort and have lunch.
  • Lunch options in Shrivardhan:
    • Tavsalkar Restaurant: Malvani/ Konkani Nonveg Thalis (Fish/Chicken/Mutton).
    • Paradise Beach Resort: Veg/Nonveg Konkani meals, Punjabi food.

Suggestions and recommendations:

  • One of the most important features of visiting any place in Konkan is the local food. One must try local delicacies like 
    Ghawane, Ukadiche Modak, Vaalachi Usal, Sagarmethi Bhaaji, Kombdi Vade, Dadape Pohe, Mango Moramba and don’t forget the amazing seafood like prawns, varieties of fish, crabs, and others cooked in traditional style.
  • The best time to visit is from October to February as the weather is soothing.
