  • Situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River, Vadodara was formerly and popularly known as Baroda. Presently, it stands to be the 3rd largest city of Gujarat after Surat and Ahmedabad.   • Right after leaving the Akota Bridge, your next stop will be the Sayaji Baug which is also within 3.5 km distance. You should begin your tour by 3:00 pm at this park. The garden is situated on the banks of River Vishwamitri. In its vast area comprise a Zoo, Museum & Picture Gallery, and a Planetarium with Toy Train, Lawns, Sculptures, and Fountains. The museum is visited mostly for Egyptian Mummy and Skeleton Remains of a Blue Whale. It is more popularly known as ‘Kamati Baug’.

After finishing your tour at the Sayaji Baug, you can relax for a while and have a quick bite, You get a variety of food choices from pav bhaji, dosa, sandwiches & pizza, chinese and much more just opposite the zoo entry gate, across the road. After your refreshment break, if you want to continue exploring the city, you can drive down another 2.5 km from the Sayaji Baug and reach the Sur Sagar Lake to spend the rest of your evening with a view. It is an iconic landmark situated right in the centre of the city.

  • It has a Gigantic magnificent man-made sculpture of Hindu mythology God ‘Lord Shiva’, and lits up on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, as a tribute to God and its devotees.

In case, you want to go shopping, like sarees and other traditional clothing such as ‘chaniya choli’ you must visit Baroda Prints which is famous for Patola Silk Sarees. You can find this shop approx; 2 km away from Sayaji Baug. For other casual and everyday wear, there is plenty of outlets and showroom in the Alkapuri area such as the Centre Point, Gauri showroom, etc.

Dinner options:

  • If you are looking for some street-side food, then come down to the ‘Raatri Bazaar’ or Night Bazaar at Fatehgunj which is around 4 km away from Alkapuri. Here you will get to enjoy Matka Biryani, South Indian, Punjabi food, and even street food like momos, etc. Later you can enjoy other local food like kulfi, falooda, shakes, fresh fruit juices, ice gola, tandoori chai, etc.
  • If you wish to try Gujarati Thali Meals, there are plenty of options available in Vadodara. Another good spot for Thali is the Shree Kathiyawadi Khadki where you get not only traditional Gujarati Thali, but also try their famous Kathiyawadi-style Thali in a village-like ambiance. It is located in Raopura which is within 3.5 km reach from Alkapuri.
  • If you are looking for some egg preparations then visit Raju Omelette and try out their burjis, half-fry, omelet, boiled egg, and many such varieties made from egg. They have few outlets in Vadodara, but the one near Railway Station, Alkapuri will be the closest. Their main outlet is at the Old Padra Road but is a little farther than 4 km of distance.
  • If you are not too tired from the day’s tour and want to explore the nightlife of the city, you can proceed to visit Mandvi Gate for a stroll and also have a view of its night illumination. This historic landmark of Vadodara is the north gate of the Royal Enclosure for Baroda State. A four-story building with a clock at the centre-top of its structure is at the centre of the walled city where the roads leading to the 4 gates cross. This place is at a distance of around 5 km from the centre point of Alkapuri.

  • The Makarpura Palace was built and designed in an Italian Renaissance style. It lies to the south of Baroda and was used as a country residence for the Royals of Gaekwads. The palace is set in English-style formal gardens, shown in the foreground. It is beyond 10 km away from Alkapuri’s city centre.
  • A unique modern-looking temple was built for every religion – Hindu, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, and Zoroastrianism. The EME Temple is a secular place that gives equal respect to all religions. The temple was built and is managed by the Indian Army. It is within a reachable distance of less than 5 km from Alkapuri.
  • Vadodara is also quite renowned and famous for its education institutes such as the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Parul University, and Navrachna University. You can visit their campuses just to know the culture and vibes of the student life.

    • About 90 km away from Vadodara, the World’s tallest Monument, the Statue of Unity is a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that overlooks the vast surroundings of the River Narmada and Sardar Sarovar Dam. There are plenty of other attractions to visit at the Statute of Unity like the Sardar Sarovar Dam, The Valley of Flowers, Jungle Safari, Light and Sound show, Ekta Mall.
