Day-1: Reach Diu, Local sightseeing

Assuming you reach and check-in at noon, first thing you should do is have lunch as most restaurants close for lunch after 3 PM. For seafood lovers, there are lots of options available. Finding a pure vegetarian restaurant is difficult; most of the restaurants serve veg and non veg combined. If you are pure vegetarian then Gayatri Restaurant is a good option for traditional Kathiyawadi Lunch.

Visit Diu Fort: This fort was constructed by the Portuguese on the west coast of Diu. It is currently under administration of Archaeological Survey of India. The fort is very big in size and it may take around 3-4 hours if you go for a thorough visit. There is also a lighthouse within the fort. It is an absolute treat to go through all the areas of the fort and imagine how the older defence system used to work and how they were able to manage and store water & food supplies as well as creating strategic exit locations.
Diu Fort
Visit Pani Kotha or Panikota: Panikota is a jail which is also a part of the Diu Fort and can be seen from the Fort as well. It is a special jail, which is built in the midst of the sea and was used to keep the prisoners who were given the punishment of “Kaala Paani”. To visit here, you may need to board a ship from the Bunder Chowk which costs you around Rs. 80 per person for a to and fro journey. The ferry takes you to Panikota and drops back to Bunder Chowk.

Head towards Gangeshwar Temple for Sunset: By the time you visit both the forts, it would be evening time but you can enjoy a beautiful sunset view at the Gangeshwar Temple. It is an open cave temple, facing sea with a total of 5 Shiv Lingas. The temple is believed to be 5000 years old and it was established by the Pandavas during their Vanvas (exile). The lingas are established on a rocky surface of the sea shore and all the lingas are of different sizes. The main attraction is when there is high tide, the lingas submerge in the water and the name of the temple is derived from the Lord of River Ganga, Gangeshwar.
Visit the local market and walk around beach side: After the sunset, most of tourist attractions will be closed but you may roam around local market and buy various articles like clothing to artificial jewellery as well as items manufactured out of shells. The local authorities have also made a beach walk-way that connects Ghoghala beach to Nagoa beach. It is a treat to walk on the same on a cool, breezy evening.
Dinner Options:
- Grand Highness (Fort Road - Main Bazaar) - For a proper dinner after a tiring day, you have lots of options available in seafood and chicken while in the veg food, the main option is Gujarati Thali.
- Majority restaurants serve North as well as south Indian dishes. For nightlife lovers, bars are open till late at night. However, drinking alcohol on the beach or walkway is strictly prohibited. Also, visiting the beach at night is strictly prohibited but visiting the walkway is allowed even in the night.
Day-2: Local Sightseeing in Diu
Morning walk/cycling along beachside: There is a beach walkway from Ghoghala beach to Nagoa beach and during mornings, there is a lot happening there. You will find locals roaming around, walking, exercising, cycling etc. Best time to visit is from 5.30 am to 7.30 am. You may also find roadside healthy snacks options over there.

Breakfast options: Major hotels offer breakfast along with hotel booking, which includes all vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. However, in case you want to explore local food, there is a “Khau Gali” near Bundar Chowk where there are lots of local food options from Omelette, fafada, Vanela Gathiya to Aloo Paratha.
Enjoy the Nagoa Beach: Nagoa beach is the best beach in Diu, where you may go to enjoy during morning and evening. There are lots of activities to do like water sports, Horse/Camel riding, play beach side games or just take bath in the shallow waters. The beach is generally crowded during holidays and weekends.
Visit St. Paul’s Church: St. Paul’s Church, built in 1610 AD, is a classic Portuguese architecture marvel. When you visit, you can enjoy the architecture and decorations as well as the scenic views.

Lunch Options: Apart from the hotel options, you can enjoy local dishes as well as other cuisines at some mid-range options like restaurants Hotel Apar and Apna.
INS Khukri Memorial: After lunch, you may visit INS Khukri Memorial, which was made in the memory of the Indian Naval ship, which was martyred during the Indo-Pak War in 1971 at 40 Nautical Miles off the Coast of Diu. The Ship was destroyed by Pakistani Submarine. At the time of sinking, there were 18 Officers and 176 Sailors on board, all of them martyred along with the ship.
Ghoghala Beach: One of the most attractive beaches in Diu, known for its evening scenic beauty, is Ghoghala beach. The beach is not too crowded like Nagoa and for those who like isolation or fewer crowds, this beach is perfect. Water sports activities are available.
Dinner option: For dinner, you may visit the bars and pubs alongside the beach as well as near Bunder Chowk area.
